Here is my Influence Map for the Year. This is going to a yearly thing that I’m going to be doing as i track through the things that has influenced my Art Style and inspire me to create and draw. Here are some deeper explanation of why i put some of the things on here (and also how it could’ve been improved). Here we go
Jamie Hewlett: I don’t know how i found out about the Gorillaz or the artwork attached to them but when i did, i was HOOKED! (Mainly the Artwork)
The artwork perfectly captures the Edgy Cartoon Style that i am in love with and is a style that i want to emulate in my art.
Spider-man: Spider-Verse: I remember playing this Spider-Man Game on the DS and i have always Loved with its Awesome Comic-Book Art Style. I remember being OBSESSED with the games Art-Style when i was younger and it might have been the beginning of my interest in Comics. So you can imagine how excited i was when I learned that an Animated Spider-Man Movie with an Art-Style Inspired by American Comic-Books was coming out. Strangely enough though, it took me a while to get along with the first movie(Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), probably because of it’s more lighthearted tone back when i thought that Dark and Gritty = Cool. Time Passed and i grew out of this mindset in time for the second movie(Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) to come out. Obviously, i loved it, Especially the Animation which at times reminded me of the Frutiger-Metro\Superflat-Pop Style (See down below). Haven’t watched those movies in a while but I’ll probably soon. I also have the Art-Book, it’s pretty awesome. May or may not be the book that got me into painting

Sui Ishida: Speaking of Paintings. I love this guy’s art so much. They’re so Eerie and Ethereal and the brush work is so amazing i can’t help but be drawn to them. One day I’ll be able to Paint on his level
Tim Burton: This guy proved to me that you can have a cartoony art-style AND make it look creepy.
Plastiboo: Genuinely some of the creepiest art I’ve ever seen. + also cartoony at times and comic panels. It like it
Pitch Canker: So simple yet bold and creepy. Similar to the previous two artists in showing me that stylised art can be creepy.
Surrealism: Always been fascinated by the Bizarre and the Fantastical (mainly in part of some of the movies i watched when i was a child) so this Art Movement is right up my Alley. Favourite Artists Include Renè Magritte, Joan Miró, Yves Tanguy, and Leonora Carrington.
Junji Ito: Don’t really know why he’s on here. He has some neat Body Horror though
Frutiger Metro\Superflat Pop: i am mixing these two together because both boil down to the same thing, Vector Maximalism. Bright and Colourful Explosions of Cartoony Characters, Silhouettes, Abstract Shapes, Splatters, Iconography and Arrows. I think this might be one of my most Favourite things ever. (Probably Should’ve been Bigger)
Shigenori Soejima: Love his Art. So Stylish and Bold. The kind of stuff that just gets me excited. Also love the way he designs his characters. Definetly a favourite artist of mine, even though I’ve never played a Persona Game before (Another one that Should've been bigger)
Here are some Honorable Mentions that might get on a Later Map
- Stanely Donwood (The guy behind the Radiohead Album Covers)
- Odilon Redon (Symbolist Painter)
- Gen X Soft Club (Y2K Aesthetic)
- Martin Walls (Creator of The Walten Files)
I think that’s all i have for you today. See you losers next time 💙🦇💙
